2018 annual GALA DINNER
Skin I’m In is back and we are so excited to have shared the stunning annual One Diaspora Gala dinner event with you.
We have collaborated with graphic design house Studio Badu, to give you a night that will leave you feeling inspired and empowered.
The Mayfair Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel was reserved exclusively for our pleasure and at 6.30pm on Saturday 20 October, the venue opened its doors and welcomed us to a memorable night of black excellence.
For those of you who have previously attended a Skin I’m In gala, you will know that this is our signature event. An event that collectively celebrates the diaspora in such a way that doesn’t exist anywhere else in Australia.
Coming together in celebration of the skin we are in, the Keynote address was delivered by Ade Hassan, founder of the innovative company, Nubian Skin. Ade travelled to Australia specifically to speak to all of us and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
The very accomplished and inspiring Kemi Nekvapil, coach, speaker and author, was our Master of Ceremonies.
We gathered a collective of amazing women to help make this event even more special and we do so in support and recognition of the #TimesUp movement which shines a light on the sexual harassment of women.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is an event ‘for us, by us’. A 5-star night which includes fine wines, hors d'oeuvres, exquisite food and entertainment.
We thank you to all our guests who attended the gala!

FOUNDER OF NUBIAN SKIN
To quote Ade, “My nude isn’t the nude I see in shops. Despite the reality that women of colour have the same needs as all women when it comes to lingerie and hosiery, the industry simply doesn’t cater to us. So, I thought, it’s time to rethink the definition of nude”.
Ade brought a truly innovative product to the market. Nubian Skin managed to do something that had an impact beyond itself, and redefining ‘nude’, and making the term more inclusive meant that Nubian Skin has had a huge influence, with many parts of the industry realising the need to be more inclusive. Testament to this are the milestones she has achieved. Being featured in some form in every major fashion magazine; supplying the wardrobe of major productions in the West End and on Broadway, and being selected to provide the underpinnings for the Beyonce Formation Tour!
